Western Australia - a British colony since 1831. From 1901.01.01 - a state of the Commonwealth of Australia. Own stamps were issued in 1854-1912. Almost all stamps depict a black swan - the emblem of the colony (then the state). In 1893-99, fiscal stamps were used as mail. 2 telegraph stamps were also issued. In 1912 a large number of 2p stamps (1905) overprinted with the new denomination were used throughout Australia. All stamps of Western Australia were withdrawn from circulation on May 25, 1913.
